Chamonix Mont Blanc, 1 July 2014
TestMatos/ Ateliers des Marques – 28 & 29 Juin
It’s mission accomplished for Chamonix Mountain Festival, following the two day GearFest which opened this year’s event on 28 and 29 June.
Amongst the brand experiences, Mountain Hardwear athletes Sébastien Foissac et Vivian Bruchez stayed ahead of Sunday’s bad weather, with a rain snow limit of 2500m with both groups leaving the Torino refuge for the Aiguilles d’Entrèves.
The Black Diamond groups with their guides: Corrado Pesce, Jon Bracey, Patrick Pessi et Titi Gentet and participants from Germany, England, Italy, France and India took on the Arête des Cosmiques et la Pointe Lachenal. One participant explained that the strong wind on the arête had made him very aware of the height at which they were climbing! The participants all had a great day though, taking away test equipment with them and providing all the brands with feedback on their latest products.
The bad weather meant that the Valandre/SlingFin bivvi event was postponed until 2 July when the team will spend the night on the glacier.
This year both GearFest also benefitted from Sony’s participation in the event with Alexandre Devulder, who is responsible for marketing in Europe, bringing a selection of Sony Action Cams for participants to test and capture some beautiful images of Chamonix along the way.
As well as a host of brands including Jöttnar, Idris, Mammut, Tendon, Singing Rock, Goal Zero, Kailas, Blue Ice, Chimpanzee being present, GearFest also benefited from the amazing spirit of John Ellison, founder of Climbers Against Cancer who was also present. All in all in all it was a great opportunity to climb with amazing athletes, test the latest technical materials and enjoy the ambience of an event at the foot of one of the most beautiful mountains in the world, Mont Blanc!
The next event on the programme is today’s conference at the Majestic with Markus Reiterer Alpine Convention, Arnaud Longobardi pilote de ligne/speedrider and Antoine Pécher FFME hosted by Radio Mont Blanc.
